With 4 percent of the world's population, the USA spends as much on the military as the rest of the world combined. Cutting the USA's military budget is a goal of the Poor People’s Campaign. On June 11, four people from the Keene area were arrested for nonviolent civil disobedience at the New Hampshire statehouse as part of the Poor People’s Campaign, Judy Reed told the Valley Post on June 19. The people who were arrested are Keene residents Reed, Charlie Gibson, and Eleanor Vander Haegen, and Patricia Martin of Rindge, New Hampshire.

On June 30, there will be rallies to protest Trump's prisons for kids. The rallies will be in Northampton, Greenfield, and Keene. Details are at:

More than 100 people attended a Northampton rally for this issue on June 14. The organizers have a web site at www.PioneerValleyWomensMarch.org.

In Massachusetts, the Republican governor is trying to get rid of a law that says workers get paid “time and a half” when they work on Sundays and holidays. People who live in the Valley and are members of a union in Springfield attended a rally at the statehouse on June 13 against the governor's plan. The union has a web site at www.ufcw1459.com.
