On June 26 a local land trust announced it had saved 47 acres near Greenfield. “The land includes farmland, forest, and about one-third of a mile of Burrington Brook, an important cold-water stream that supports native brook trout habitat. It also connects to the existing Crowningshield Conservation Area, expanding a larger protected landscape,” said a spokesperson for Franklin Land Trust. “More than 18 acres contain high-quality agricultural soils, while roughly 19 acres have been identified as critical natural landscape for wildlife habitat and climate resilience.”
