In other news from the Valley, Native Americans in Greenfield are asking the public to attend a government hearing in Greenfield on March 12 at 6 p.m. at the high school cafeteria. “We oppose the zoning change,” David Brule told the Valley Post in a phone interview on February 19. “We don't want a Walmart, a gas station or a fast food restaurant on land that Native Americans have lived on for thousands of years. There are archaeological sites on that area.”

The zoning change would affect 158 acres. The most vulnerable part is 19 acres of open space. The rest is a mix of houses, a 40 acre wilderness park, a tire store, and a car repair business. More information about Brule is at:

Helping the Native Americans is Al Norman. He told the Valley Post in a phone interview on February 23, “The town council did not allow any of the 60 or so people at its February 14 meeting to speak. Many of the people at the meeting were holding signs opposed to the zoning change.” Norman has a web site at www.sprawl-busters.com.

Five of the people are from the Brattleboro area. They were arrested outside Trump's ICE office in Burlington. “I feel extremely upset that the judge won't let us talk about ICE in court,” Rachel Siegel told the Valley Post in a phone interview on February 24. She runs a group that has a web site at www.pjcVT.org.
