Shelburne, Massachusetts borders Greenfield. In Shelburne, 152 acres of farmland has been saved, Sebastian LaMontagne told the Valley Post on March 5. He works for Franklin Land Trust. Of the Greenfield Recorder newspaper's article about the deal, LaMontagne said, “This article was by and large accurate. The only thing we noticed that was incorrect was the mention of a 'stipend' in return for the conservation restriction. That terminology isn't quite accurate. The technical way to say it would be that Susan and Larry Flaccus offered us a 'bargain sale conservation restriction,' meaning that they generously accepted the purchase of a conservation restriction on their land for significantly less than the appraised value.”
