Protesting Trump's Policies

On January 27, there was a rally for immigrant rights outside Springfield city hall. “It was wonderful. Five hundred people came, according to the police,” Rose Bookbinder told the Valley Post. She works for the group that organized the rally. The group's web site is www.pvWorkersCenter.org.

On February 2 at 6 p.m., the same group will host a rally outside Northampton city hall at 210 Main Street in support of a proposed city rule that would only approve business licenses for employers who comply with existing labor laws. “This resolution will benefit all workers but will especially impact undocumented and immigrant workers who are subject to the most intense exploitation,” said Diana Sierra, one of the rally organizers.

In downtown Brattleboro on January 29, about 200 people rallied outdoors for the rights of refugees. “The atmosphere was charged with energy and compassion,” organizer Tracy Murphy told the Valley Post.

On January 29, about 125 people rallied outdoors in downtown Keene. They were protesting President Trump's announcement two days earlier that he would ban people from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Libya, Yemen and Somalia from entering the USA. He also limited the number of refugees allowed into the USA to 50,000 per year, down from the current 110,000 per year.

On January 26, leaders of the Republican-controlled congress said they support spending about $13 billion on Trump's proposed wall along the USA-Mexico border.

On February 3 at 5:30 p.m., there will be a rally outside the Springfield federal court at 300 State Street. Organizers said of the rally, “We will not stand still as our immigrant neighbors are threatened, as our Muslim brothers and sisters are targeted, and as members of our community are subject to a racist criminal justice system and mass incarceration.”

As of February 2, more than 120 people had RSVP'd on the event Facebook page:
