Ten people were arrested for non-violent civil disobedience in the Connecticut river valley town of Sandisfield, Massachusetts on September 13. The activists blocked construction of a fracked gas pipeline. Fracked gas causes climate change, which the world's leading scientists say is a major threat to earth's ability to support human life.
Dennis Carr was arrested at the protest. He lives in Cummington, Massachusetts. Carr told the Valley Post, “It went well. We intend to continue to resist." The activists have a web site at www.SugarShackAlliance.org.
All the people who were arrested live in Massachusetts. In addition to Carr, they are Michele Vitti from Arlington; Fergus Marshal, Jr., from Chicopee; Micah Carpenter-Lott from Sutton; Ryan Smart from Cambridge; Vivienne Simon from Northampton; Rema Loeb and Erik Burcroff, both from Plainfield; Steven Botkin from Pelham; and Priscilla Lynch from Conway.
More than 70 people have been arrested at the Sandisfield pipeline construction site since May. Ellen Graves lives in West Springfield, Massachusetts. She was arrested on June 24 in Sandisfield. “I feel good about how the protest went,” Graves told the Valley Post. “We succeeded in bringing attention to this pipeline.”
