Brattleboro Climate March is April 22

On April 22 at 3 p.m. there will be a climate march from the Brattleboro town common to the corner of Elliot and Main streets. One of the groups that's organizing the march has a web site at www.350Vermont.org.

The biggest cause of climate change is over-population. Population is growing fastest in Africa. But in 2014 (the most recent year for which data is available) the average person in the USA produced 16.5 tons of carbon dioxide. The average person in Mali produced 0.1 tons that year. That's according to:

Carbon dioxide causes climate change. One of the best ways to reduce over-population is to fight for women's rights. In rich nations and poor nations, the more education a woman has, the fewer children she will have, on average.

The USA has never had a female president. Bernie Sanders said in January his vice-president would “not be an old white guy." In January, Joe Biden was asked if he would consider picking Stacey Abrams to be his running mate. He said, “There’s at least nine women I can think of who are fully capable of being president.”

On February 26, the federal government reported at

www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1092796/000119312520056239/d872074dex101...

that the CEO of a gun making company in Springfield, Massachusetts would resign and get more than $1 million “in severance and other compensation.” He had been getting paid $4 million a year.

Meanwhile, teachers in Springfield public schools are struggling with a lack of funding. Springfield is home to about 150,000 people, about 68 percent of whom are people of color.

Maureen Colgan Posner is president of the Springfield teachers' union, which has a web site at www.seaTeachers.com. On March 3, she told the Valley Post that Springfield public schools get $15,865 per student per year. Public schools in the town of Wellfleet, Massachusetts get $31,653 per student per year. Wellfleet is 97 percent white.
