Labor Rallies Will Be in Northampton, Springfield

There will be rallies to support workplace justice in Northampton and Springfield. The Northampton rally will be on December 2 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. The Springfield rallies are on November 28 and 29 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.

In recent decades, the richest Americans have gotten richer, while the middle class has gotten smaller. Union workers in the U.S. make about 29 percent more money than nonunion workers. That’s around $9,300 a year extra for the average worker who joins a union. For Latino workers, the union advantage is about 50 percent; for black workers, approximately 31 percent. The Springfield rallies are to support nurses who work at Baystate Visiting Nurse and Hospise Corporation. The November 28 rally will be in front of the corporation's office at 50 Maple Street. The November 29 rally will be at the site of the new “hospital of the future” on Springfield Street. The nurses' union has been negotiating a new contact for the past 10 months. Workers at the ServiceNet Corporation will rally at the enrance to Look Park on Route 9 in Northampton, where the corporation will be hosting a fundraising dinner. UAW union Local 2322 has been in negotiations with ServiceNet for eight months. "Please attend the rally and contact ServiceNet CEO Sue Stubbs at (413) 585-1300 x2501 or sstubbs@servicentinc.org," said union official Brooks Ballenger. "Tell her to bargain a fair contract for ServiceNet workers.
