There will be a march and rally for peace on May 17 at 3:45 p.m. in Northampton. The event will start at City Hall, 210 Main Street. The U.S. spends more on the military than any other nation. “The U.S. war budget is greater than the military spending of the next 13 largest military powers combined,” said event organizer Susan Theberge.
The U.S. spends about $2,000 per person per year on the military. The global average is about one-tenth that amount. That’s according to:

Six time Northampton mayor Clare Higgins will speak at the rally. The event is also intended to raise awareness of rich people and corporations who don’t pay taxes while government programs that help poor people are being cut.
The event is sponsored by the western Massachusetts chapter of Jobs With Justice www.jwj.org and other groups. For more information about the march and rally, call Theberge at (413) 575-7345 or write Marty Nathan: martygjf@comcast.net.
